INTRODUCTION
POLICIES
Parks, recreation and open spaces add
to the quality of life and health of Village
residents. Residents are blessed with plenty
of recreational opportunities throughout the
Columbia Valley. However, it is also extremely
important to have nearby recreation and public
gathering opportunities within the Village.
Every citizen should have nearby park space
and recreation opportunities to enhance their
health and well-being.
5.3.1.
The Village shall require developers
to provide the maximum park reserve
of 5% in accordance with the Local
Government Act as either land or
as cash-in-lieu.

cash-in-lieu of land for the 5%
dedication it shall be at the discretion
of the Village.
5.3.2.
Developers shall dedicate lands for
parks as shown on Map 5: Parks &
Open Spaces in accordance with the
Local Government Act.

Objective 61: Expand and enhance the
Village’s parks, recreation and
open space network.
The Village should endeavour to
develop a park and/or playground
within 500 metres of every home.
5.3.4.
The Village should ensure that new
developments and redevelopments of
existing sites are integrated with the
surrounding neighbourhoods through
a connected system of pathways,
sidewalks, trails and public spaces.
